Spain: Palma to Porto Cristo around Mallorca

Leave Palma and cruise southwest around the coast toward Port d’Andratx. At approximately 17 NM, the first passage remains deliberately moderate and provides enough time for a swim or lunch stop before entering the harbour. Spend the afternoon around the harbour or take the tender toward one of the nearby coves, depending on conditions. Port d’Andratx also places the yacht at the beginning of Mallorca’s western coastline, ready for the following day’s passage beneath the Serra de Tramuntana.

Depart Port d’Andratx and head north along Mallorca’s western shore toward Port de Sóller. The route passes the island’s more rugged coastline and becomes increasingly dominated by the Serra de Tramuntana as the yacht moves north. Established Mallorca sailing routes place this passage at approximately 25 NM.

Arrive inside Port de Sóller’s protected bay and spend the afternoon ashore along the waterfront or take the historic tram inland toward Sóller. The harbour also provides a practical overnight position before the charter’s longest passage along the north coast.

Leave Port de Sóller for the longest leg of the itinerary, following Mallorca’s north coast toward Port de Pollença. This section passes below the steep Tramuntana coastline and should be planned carefully around wind and sea state, particularly because sheltered alternatives are more limited than on the south and east coasts.

Allow most of the morning for the approximately 35 NM passage before entering the broad waters around Pollença. Official Balearic tourism guidance specifically highlights the high cliffs between Port de Sóller and Port de Pollença as a defining feature of cruising Mallorca from the sea.

Cruise east from Port de Pollença, passing through the waters around northern Mallorca before continuing toward Cala Ratjada. The approximately 25 NM leg reduces the day’s cruising time after the longer Tramuntana passage and gradually brings the yacht onto the island’s eastern coast.

Arrive in Cala Ratjada with time to head ashore, visit a nearby cove or remain aboard for the afternoon. The harbour provides a useful overnight stop before the shorter final passage south to Porto Cristo.

Depart Cala Ratjada and cruise south along Mallorca’s eastern coast toward Porto Cristo. The lighter final passage allows for a slower morning or a swimming stop before entering the harbour and completing the charter.
