British Virgin Islands: Tortola Round-Trip through Virgin Gorda and Jost Van Dyke

Depart Tortola for a short crossing to Norman Island, giving the charter an easy first day on the water. The limited distance allows time to stop for swimming or snorkelling before settling into an overnight anchorage around The Bight.

Norman Island has long been associated with pirate stories and is now particularly known among boaters and divers. Guests can explore the coastal caves by tender or snorkel before returning aboard for a relaxed evening in the anchorage.

Continue east through the Sir Francis Drake Channel toward Cooper Island. This remains another short passage, allowing the itinerary to make use of the BVI’s compact geography rather than spending several hours each day underway.

Anchor or take a mooring around Manchioneel Bay and spend the afternoon swimming, snorkelling or heading ashore. Cooper Island sits only a few miles from Tortola’s southeastern coast and works naturally as an intermediate stop between Norman Island and Virgin Gorda.

Cruise northeast toward Virgin Gorda on another manageable morning passage. Arriving early gives guests time to explore ashore while leaving the captain flexibility to choose between marina facilities and a suitable mooring depending on the day’s conditions.

Visit The Baths on the island’s southwest coast, where large granite boulders form passages, pools and sheltered sections along the shoreline. Moorings and dinghy access are available around the national park area, though final access should always depend on sea state and local guidance.

Leave Virgin Gorda and make the week’s longest passage west toward Jost Van Dyke. Although considerably longer than the previous legs, the distance remains moderate for a charter day and avoids inserting an unnecessary overnight stop simply to break up the route.

Arrive around Great Harbour or another suitable anchorage and spend the afternoon ashore. Jost Van Dyke is one of the BVI’s smaller inhabited islands, with beachside dining, walking routes and several established yacht stops around its coastline.

Finish with a short passage from Jost Van Dyke back toward Tortola. The route keeps the final morning relaxed and provides enough time for a last swim or breakfast at anchor before returning to the charter base.

Arrive in Road Town for fuel, handover and disembarkation. The loop covers the BVI’s southern and eastern cruising grounds before crossing back west, while keeping the total mileage low enough that no day is dominated by travel.
