Tanzania: Stone Town Roundtrip through Changuu, Chumbe and Kizimkazi

Cruise west from Stone Town towards Changuu Island, commonly known as Prison Island. The short passage introduces Zanzibar’s nearby offshore islands and provides time for swimming, snorkelling and a tender visit ashore.

Spend part of the day exploring the island before repositioning through the surrounding western waters. Depending on conditions, Bawe Island can be visited by tender or incorporated as a nearby swim and snorkelling stop before the yacht settles into a captain-approved anchorage for the evening.

Cruise south towards Chumbe Island, where protected coral reef environments create one of the more conservation-focused stops on the itinerary. Access is controlled, so authorised shore visits, guided snorkelling and other activities should be arranged in advance and completed within local environmental requirements.

The yacht can remain at an appropriate position outside restricted areas while guests continue by tender. Spend the remainder of the afternoon swimming, snorkelling or relaxing onboard before repositioning to a suitable anchorage according to tide, wind and reef conditions.

Begin the final passage north towards Stone Town, travelling from Zanzibar’s southern waters back along the western side of Unguja. Depending on timing and conditions, the yacht may pause near the Kizimkazi area or along the coast for a final swim before continuing towards the historic waterfront.

Return to Stone Town for disembarkation, with time ashore possible if guest schedules allow. The final passage completes a four-day route combining offshore islands, coral environments, southern Zanzibar cruising and the cultural setting of Stone Town.
